Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich has welcomed the news that the Labour Government have listened to reason and awarded the Post Office the contract to pay benefits and pensions direct to local people. Labour also buckled under a petition of more than two million people, calling for the Post Office Card Account to be saved.
Andrew who collected hundreds of signatures across Central Suffolk earlier this year added "Labour has at last listened to concerns about the threat to local Post Offices created by their penny pinching and have potentially saved a vital public service."
The Federation of Sub-Poster masters had earlier predicted that as many as 3000 branches would close if the Post Office Card Account were awarded to another provider.
Andrew concluded: "I would like to thank the hundreds of local people that signed my petition, and assure them and all my constituents of my continued vigilance and support for the community we share."
