Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne call for summer sun, beaches and water in Ipswich!

June 19, 2008 10:00 PM

While the lack of sun in Suffolk currently is a little disappointing, countless people across North Ipswich are even more disappointed with the continued closure of the Broomhill Lido.

Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich has declared his support for the Broomhill Trust, the community organisation which is championing the campaign to re-open the Olympic size open air swimming pool.

"The Broomhill was closed in 2002/03 after years of neglect - but this valuable resource should be re-opened for the health and enjoyment of the people of Ipswich as soon as possible," commented Andrew.

Andrew, who is a senior Primary school teacher, is committed to the social, emotional and physical well being of our community and especially of that of our young people. "A facility like Broomhill isn't just a sun seekers palace of leisure, but it can also be used for a wide range of life skills development. Life saving courses, first aid, team building exercises, are just a few obvious examples," said Mr. Aalders-Dunthorne.

As our society becomes more obese it is essential that we are able to offer a range of facilities that are accessible to as wide a range of the community as possible.

"National statistics show that the poorer the individual is the more likely they are to be obese. IAmongst women, for example, unskilled manual workers are twice as likely to be obese with all the associated health implications compared to women with professional qualifications and jobs."

"This isn't fair or sustainable in the long term and puts a huge strain on the health service and the tax payer, not only is it right to provide accessible facilities like public pools, it is in our collective interest to make this very important investment for our future," concluded Andrew.
