Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne supports his local post office
Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich has reacted angrily to news that even before this round of Post Office closures have been concluded - Labour has threatened a further 3,000 branches.
Andrew commented "2,500 post offices are being shut by Labour this year, now the Government is to abolish the PO card account which is a quick an easy way in which people can access their state pensions and benefits."
Sub-post offices depend on the income generated by administering these accounts, and potential vulnerable members of our community could lose out under this further adjustment to the benefit system. If Post Offices lose the right to administer the new scheme a quarter of the remaining network could close.
"I am calling on the government to ensure that a viable and sustainable post office network is available to the community, and serious consideration should be given to awarding the replacement service to the PO Card Account to the Post Office." Andrew concluded.
