Councillors Call for Road Improvements from SnOasis Developers

August 18, 2004 1:02 PM

Lib Dem County Councillors John Field and Kathy Pollard are calling on the SnOasis developers to contribute to improvements at the Copdock Mill interchange. They are also concerned about the increase in traffic on local roads through villages like Great Blakenham and Sproughton. They represent the areas which will be most affected by the proposed development. Suffolk County Council has engaged Faber Maunsell to carry out an independent traffic assessment of the proposals because of their concerns.

John Field, who represents Claydon, Barham, Baylham, Bramford and Great and Little Blakenham said "There are a number of concerns in my villages that the traffic volumes will be much higher than those projected by the developer. While many people will welcome the economic benefit that SnOasis will bring we have to put the views of our constituents at the forefront. We also have to take into consideration the effect that 500 plus houses will have on traffic flows."

Kathy Pollard added "I am particularly concerned about increased traffic through Sproughton and increased congestion at the Copdock Mill roundabout. When Copdock Mill is busy local people find alternative routes, and many of them use Sproughton as a shortcut to the A14. Sproughton is also just a few miles away from the proposed development and workers may well travel through the village to get to work. This combines to make life very unpleasant, especially at peak hours for residents of High Street, Burstall Lane and Lower Street."

John and Kathy are calling on people to write into Mid Suffolk District Council with their views.
